Why has the hair removal left blue marks on my legs?

Pulling the sugar paste off the skin in an upward motion, instead of a parallel motion, can result in blue marks (haematomas).

Why is the sugar paste sticking to my skin?

The sugar paste you are using is too soft (the selected paste does not match the recommended room/ambient temperature).

Why is the hair snapping instead of being removed completely?

You have to apply the sugar paste carefully against the direction of hair growth and remove it IN the direction of hair growth. If you don’t carry out either of these steps properly, this can cause hair to snap.

Why is the sugar paste difficult to remove from the pot?

Either the sugar paste was stored in a cool place and you have not left it to acclimatise, or the sugar paste you have chosen is too strong.
The paste should be quite easy to remove, but it should not be TOO soft either.

Why is the sugar paste unpleasant to apply?

Either the sugar paste you have chosen is too strong, or your hair is too long.

What do I do if the client sweats and the sugar paste does not stick to the skin?

If the area of skin is sweaty, you can apply a powder after cleaning it with HairExPil Pre Epil skin cleanser.

Can the sugar pastes be mixed?

The 6 different sugar pastes can be mixed but this should not be necessary if you have chosen the right consistency. However, if a sugar paste becomes too soft when you are working with it, simply add a little bit of paste from the next strength up.

Can the sugar paste also be applied using the spatula?

Yes, with the spatula, use HairExPil SOFT sugar paste warmed to approx. 36°C in the warmer provided. A thin layer of the viscous substance is then applied against the direction of hair growth and removed in the direction of hair growth using cloth strips.

Why should the skin be cleaned with the Pre Epil skin cleanser first?

The skin cleanser removes any particles of dirt, body lotion or body cream, and also disinfects the area of skin to be treated. The sugar will not stick to oily skin, making it impossible to remove hair thoroughly.

Is there anything that I should be aware of before removing hair?

It is a good idea to exfoliate before removing hair, using either the HairExPil exfoliating glove or a body brush.
Hair should be at least 1-2 mm long.
Do not apply any body lotion/cream the morning before removing hair.

Is there anything that I should be aware of after removing hair?

You should avoid tanning salons, sunbeds, saunas and baths for at least 12 hours after removing hair with sugar paste. You should also avoid using deodorant for a period of 12 hours after removing armpit hair and you should not apply scented body creams to areas that have been treated.
Ideally you should treat your skin with Aloe Vera gel or spray.

Can hair in intimate regions also be removed?

The sugaring technique is ideal for use in intimate areas, for both men and women, and is HIGHLY recommended for these areas.

Is hair removal with sugar paste also suitable for men?

Yes, hair removal with sugar paste is very suitable for men, all over the body. Sugaring is less painful than waxing and therefore, it is also very popular with men. Furthermore, you get fewer pimples or none at all because hair is removed from the root and does not snap, provided that the hand technique is used properly.

Are there side effects/restrictions?

HairExPil sugar paste is suitable for all skin types, even for people with neurodermatitis and psoriasis.
The sugar paste should not be applied to wounds, recent scars or other skin changes.

How long do hairs have to be to be sugared?

Hairs should be at least 1-2 mm long. Hairs longer than 10 mm can tweak slightly when applying, therefore long hairs should be trimmed before treatment.

Can you do it yourself?

It is certainly possible to remove hair from your own body using the hand technique and also with the spatula/strip technique. However, this takes a bit of practice. Except for the hind thigh and back, anything is possible, including armpits and intimate areas.

Does the sugar paste contain chemicals?

The sugar paste is free of any chemical ingredients. It contains just water, sugar and lemon, and is therefore organic and in theory edible.

How do I work with the SOFT sugar paste and the spatula?

You would be best to watch our Demonstration video or download our downloadOnline sugaring course.

Is the hand technique easy to learn?

Everything is difficult to begin with – sugaring is just a matter of practice. Once you get the hang of the technique and follow certain treatment processes closely, it’s not a problem. Many people learn the technique themselves (learning by doing), whereas others prefer to complete a 1-day course with us.
The important thing is to be patient. If at first you don’t succeed, try and try again.

Why is the surface of the sugar paste moist?

If the lid on the sugar paste pot is not closed, a layer of condensation may form on the surface. The sugar paste absorbs moisture from the surrounding air.
Avoid leaving pots open for too long, as this will reduce the quality of the sugar paste.

How long does the sugar paste last?

The sugar paste does not have an expiry date. Sugar is a preservative. Make sure that pots of paste are sealed and stored in a dry and cool place.

Why should I wear latex/vinyl gloves for the hand technique?

Because your hands emit moisture and this changes the consistency of the sugar paste (it becomes softer).

Is the sugaring technique painful?

Hair removal with sugar paste is less painful than waxing because hair is removed in the direction of growth. The technique is less painful but not completely painless. The more often you “sugar”, the less painful it is because small hairs grow back thinner and thinner.

How can you prevent ingrown hairs and pimples?

Use a HairExPil exfoliating glove in the shower or bath every day or every other day, starting 2 days after the hair removal treatment, and then apply a moisturising lotion.
