What the Egyptians already knew...
Ancient technique
Sugaring originally came from the Orient and was used primarily for religious or cosmetic reasons. Sugar was already used for hair removal in Cleopatra’s time. 5000 years ago, the ancient Egyptians used a sugar decoction to care for their skin. They used this technique for cosmetic purposes, but also because it was the gentlest way of removing annoying little hairs from all over the body. The recipe was no different back then and was completely chemical-free.
Developed continuously
Like today, the sugar paste back then contained just sugar, lemon and water. However, it was used differently. The technique has been perfected and today it is as painless as possible.
Antibacterial effect
The antibacterial properties of sugar have been well known for centuries. In times of war or when medicine in general was scarce, sugar was used to disinfect wounds because of its antiseptic properties.
It is also used in medicine as a natural remedy for skin infections.
